Re: Minus 5 - android isnt the brand of the phone, HTC is, you wrote it too in the caption at the top, HTC is rather quiet with its publicity but it makes all the smartphones exclusive to Orange UK, and lots more in the USA.

This is what we all need, enough with the iPhone.. We all know its good and all but what few understand is that the prices the telenet providers account for is outrageous. In Sweden alone, to own an iPhone a year with the unlimited data plan and phone costs will go for way over 1000$ maybe even up to 2000$ which is far from apples stated price of 200$.
I know apple was fuzzy about the price and 200$ wasn’t a precise price for the phone but hell 200$ to over 1000$ thats way high.
What I hope for now is when the G1 will be available, the telenet providers will have come to their senses and will offer the data plans for a more reasonable price.
Also, since Android is open-source I see no reason why we should be unable to record videos unless the hardware is incompatible.

I think the android platform is a great idea. And I dont feel like its rushed the sooner they get it into the hands of hackers and stuff the sooner we will see new things for it. Till then I guess will have to wait and see.

i like it. i’m just wondering if t-mobile will be the only carrier. t-mobile sux for me. att is best for me. so if i can’t get it in att i will be stuck with the iphone. which,i really hate because of all the douche bags that already have one. i hate even carrying mine around, but,it’s better than carrying a laptop around everywhere.

The phone’s software looks great! Too bad the phone looks like a lopsided/uneven/half-broken Sidekick. Sexy factor? I give it a minus 10. Ugly assed phone. I look forward to the next versions. Maybe they’ll buy a clue and come up with a more stylin design.

This article needs more English literacy.

Seriously though, why only compare it with the iPhone? It’s not the only other phone on the market to compare to the G1.

One thing you have to remember is that Android is an operating system. This particular phone (Tmobile calls it the G1, HTC calls it the Dream) is only going to be available on the TMobile network. However, because the operating system can run on many different types of phones, we’ll see other manufacturers and even HTC creating different models with different features and different prices. This is simply a phone that will get the Android name out there.

Android itself is less about competing in the smartphone market, but bringing the features of a smartphone to a regular cellphone. That’s where Android will shine, and that’s how Google will come to dominate the phone market as well.
